Combine that with those wide open spaces and good luck ever capturing a point against an even half competent commander.Īnd then the weapons. It just gets to a point where everything is overlapping so much that it's impossible to keep track of what's happening where and when the next one will come. It was predictable, and even if it killed you, you knew where it was and to avoid that area on your next life. RO2 had artillery, usually with a decent cooldown depending on map. It's more of a lottery because of the sheer amount of fire support available and grenade spam. This is where the game seems to stall out almost completely, and I'll talk about why here shortly. A majority of the maps consist of wide open spaces without much hard cover of any kind, with capture points usually stuck right in the middle of them, or at the far end for the attackers. I'm not sure if that's the maps themselves, or that they just dont mesh with the gameplay well. I can't think of a single one I enjoy playing. The problem with RS2 is that the maps just. Maybe Bridges but only because it's played so often, it's an amazing map. There aren't really any maps in RO2 that make me groan when I see them in the rotation. However the number of good ones far outweighs the bad. Well sure, every game will have bad maps. Peleliu in Rising Storm was also atrocious to attack. Demyansk suffered kinda the same fate while having some game killing bugs. Many RO2 veterans have never played Gumrak Station map, since it was considered one of the worse maps and thus rarely got played. It had it's share good and bad maps and gameplay elements. Well, uh, I'm still playing it fairly regularly. People look the RO2 through the nostalgia goggles. Those Stalingrad based maps were very well made and resembled very well the real battlefield. The thing I most appreciate in RO2 was the maps it had in release. Players running with the speed of Usain Bolt from cover to cover doesn't also really feel like a realistic or fun WW2 shooter. Not to mention the weapons like MG42, MKb42, PPS-42 etc don't belong in Stalingrad. And the weapons are kinda joke in RO2, MG42 being the best "trench/house broom". RS2 has at least some larger maps to flank the enemy, while most of RO2 maps were kinda narrow. Peleliu in Rising Storm was also atrocious to attack.Īnd then that gameplay I don't get why RS2 would be any more lottery than RO2.
